The cover art is 100% drawn by me, with colored pencil freehand from a photo of my own roses and the same dear friends ElderFlowers that inspired this idea. This is my first available item with my own cover art featured!
My dear friend had the wonderful idea to create a locally grown, sustainable beauty balm for her area. She has used her own resources to make an absolutely wonderful balm that I have already tried and love, and I am following suit! 😍
Since we live on an organic dairy, all the plants that I harvested for this blend are 100% organically grown and have wonderful energy. I am so excited to be able make this and be able to offer something locally grown and sustainable for skincare. ✨

Rosehips + Roses are absolutely amazing for skin, I am a HUGE fan of rosehip oil and I thought why not combine roses + rosehip oil in order to make a luxurious nutrient dense skincare blend that is sustainable and locally harvested.
Rosehips and Roses have been used since ancient times for potent skincare use. Rosehips are high in vitamin C and Rosehip oil is considered a "dry oil" meaning that it is non-greasy while being extremely moisturizing. Just one drop of rose absolute equals 60 roses! Rose is one of the highest vibration essential oils and the roses used in this blend are an old world red rose variety that is grown naturally + organically on our property. The benefits for rose in skincare are well documented in science and folk use. Rosehip oil generally has a comedogenic rating of 2.
Culpepper says of Roses: "What a pother have authors made with Roses! What a racket have they kept? I shall add, red Roses are under Jupiter, Damask under Venus, White under the Moon, and Provence under the King of France. The white and red Roses are cooling and drying, and yet the white is taken to exceed the red in both the properties..
Oil of Roses is not only used by itself to cool any hot swellings or inflammations, and to bind and stay fluxes of humours unto sores, but is also put into ointments and plaisters that are cooling and binding, and restraining the flux of humours. "
Lady's Mantle has shown benefits for skin lightening and brightening the complexion. Lady's Mantle extracts applied topically have been noted for their skin soothing properties and has been traditionally used to support wound healing due to it's unique bioactive compounds. This herb is revered in folk medicine and grows abundantly where I live. Lady's Mantle has a comedogenic rating of 0 and is safe for acne prone skin. It contains astringent properties which can help control excess oil and potentially reduce the appearance of pores. It can support skin firmness due to promoting collagen production. Culpepper notes Lady's Mantle as being proper for those wounds that have inflammations, and this herb has been mentioned in Culpepper's herbal as being "prized by the Germans."
Grape leaves + stems are high in resveratrol which has been highly researched and valued for it's benefits in skincare. Some of these include the benefits that are a result of high antioxidant compounds, according to various test tube studies. Grape leaves have been used in Mediterranean folk cooking and folk medicine. Grape leaves are rich in vitamins and minerals and since we have grape trees that grow freely on our property since I can remember, this is a sustainable, locally grown and freshly harvested ingredient that has been infused in a high concentration to obtain maximum benefits for skincare.
The Elder tree was referred to by ancient herbalists as the cosmetic tree. In this blend I use fresh leaves + bark, with outsourced dried flowers as our elder trees are not producing flowers at this time. Elder Tree has a long history of use in folk medicine to promote healing and is widely used in cosmetic formulations for it's potent skincare benefits which are widely documented and discussed in folk medicine at length. Culpepper notes Elder as a Tree of Venus, incidentally, Lady's Mantle is also an herb of Venus.
Hawthorn is a tree of mars, according to Culpepper, and is mentioned as being helpful for splinters as it "draws them". Hawthorn is another tree that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and grows freely on the roads where I live. Hawthorn contains compounds that promote a healthier looking complexion and can also assist in reducing puffiness by promoting blood circulation, as well as it's bioactive compounds playing a role in skin repair by stimulating the production of collagen. It has been said to have been used to aid in healing of minor abrasions and wounds as it can support the skin's natural regenerative process.
